With the success of their latest single Do For You, Euphoria are undoubtedly the hottest dance act in Australia.  Barry Divola meets Andrew and Holly for a good ol' gossip...

Euphoria: "a feeling or state of well-being, of unnatural elation." That's the dictionary definition and for Andrew Klippel, Holly Garnett and Keren Minshull that feeling has been hanging around for a while now.  No-one was more suprised than the three members of Euphoria when their singles started scaling the charts like there was no competition.

A year ago there was no such thing as Euphoria.  Andrew spent most of his time going from record company to record company with tapes of his songs under his arm, trying to convince the big-wigs that he could write the odd tune or two.  Those big-wigs must be kicking themselves every time they look at the Top 40 these days.

With a brand new album, three hit singles and plenty of foreign stamps in their passports, Euphoria are now a musical force to be reckoned with.  The only way is up!

Who wears the pants in Euphoria?
Holly: Definitely Andrew.
Andrew: Well, in all musical areas I wear the pants, but as far as dancing goes Holly wears the pants and as far as the image goes, I guess we all wear the pants.

Do you have horrendous arguments?
Andrew: We have a few scuffles, don't we?
Holly: We live out of each other's pockets at the moment and we're doing 18 hour days.  When the tension is high and you're sweating in the studio, then naturally words get exchanged.

Do the girls ever gang up on you, Andrew?
Andrew: They do in a very subtle, psychological way.
Holly: We don't!

Do you share dressing rooms?
Holly: Yeah, we do actually.
Andrew: What are you asking here?  Whether we see each other naked or something?

Erm... yeah, that's exactly what I'm asking.
Andrew: Yes, I've seen the girls naked.
Holly: Well, naked as far as a g-string anyway.  I've never seen Andrew's underwear, but maybe I've just never looked.

Did a trucker driver really think up your name?
Holly: Yeah, that's true actually. Ean (that's Ean Sugerman, Euphoria's co-writer and co-producer) was getting a lift to Sydney with this truck driver.  Ean put the tape of Love You Right into the truckie's stereo and he thought that Euphoria would be a good name for the group.  We had no complaints about that at all!

Maybe when you're really successful that truckie will want 10 percent of the money you make...
Andrew: At the moment that would amount to 10 percent of nothing!

Do you get stacks of fan mail?
Holly: I get lots of letters from little girls.  They ask whether I like my name and whether I always thought I was going to be famous.  They often send a piece of paper with a picture of me stuck on it, and they want me to sign it and send it back.  I've only had a couple of letters from boys, and they've only been about nine or 10 years old.
Andrew: I tend to get people coming up to me when I'm out, but I enjoy that.  I think that's part of the job.  It can be a hassle sometimes though.  I went to a club the other night with a girl I'm seeing at the moment and I was accosted by people straight away.  On this particluar occasion I just wanted to be alone with this one person.  There's not really much point going out if you want a private time.  It's cool if you just want to go out and have fun and be with people.

If you could get anyone to sing or rap with Euphoria on one song, who would it be?
Andrew: Eazy E from NWA, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Prince, Aretha Franklin... and I'd like to get Branford Marsalis to do a sax solo.
Holly: I'd like to get George Michael in to do something.

Who do you think is overrated?
Holly: Euphoria! [Holly cracks up laughing.]
Andrew: I think everything in pop music is overrated because it's the nature of the hype.  With Euphoria we purposely try not to get too over-exposed because we want a long-term thing.  The songs are there and we believe in them.  We need a hot album to prove ourselves.

What records can't you help dancing to?
Andrew: Public Enemy's Fight The Power, Michael Jackson's Black And White, anything by Herbie Hancock and a lot of jazz too.
Holly: I love putting on all my old Jacksons records and dancing around the loungeroom.  I love Guns N' Roses One In A Million - it's a great song.  Diesel's a bit of a legend too.  I don't know so much about what's happening in the clubs.
Andrew: I've never been a big clubber and I've never really been into dance music, which is quite strange.  I can't dance either!  I'm certifiably bad.
Holly: He's learning, though, and he's looking strong.

Do You Have embarrassing nicknames for each other?
Holly: Andrew is Klippy or The Godfather.
Andrew: Holly is Hole The Roll Stroller.  Keren has a few, but the main one is Soul Sister.

What's the first thing you'd grab if your house was on fire?
Holly: My CDs and my teddy bear.  His name is Intelligent Bear.
Andrew: I'd grab my discs, my DAT tapes and my piano.  I've got a trailer outside just in case that happens!

Tell us about each other's best features.
Andrew: Holly's best physical feature is her great body.  She has a very special arse - it's probably the country's top arse, from what I've seen anyway!  And she obviously has a fantasticc face too.  Personality-wise, her best feature is her ability to get right to the heart of a matter and see things for what they are.
Holly: Andrew's tall, he looks good in a suit and he's a pretty boy with exotic looks, but he doesn't flaunt the fact.  Personality-wise, his mind is the most amazing, calculating thing.  He's a very intelligent man.

Who's the sexiest person on the planet apart from me?
Holly: The sexiest female would be Michelle Pfeiffer.  As far as guys go, there are just so many!  I think Kevin Costner's very sexy.
Andrew: After seeing that Michael Jackson video, I would have to say Naomi Campbell.  I can't believe she's so female and incredibly sexual.  She just looks so full-on in that clip that you can't help but be turned on by her.

Do you have any recurring dreams?
Holly: This is the best part about being a pop star - you get analysed all the time!  I actually dream like a little girl would dream of a fairytale.  I dream about a knight in shining armour coming to take me away.
Andrew: I had a really weird dream the other night that I went out of my body, flew around the roof, traveled to London and landed in the hotel room we were in a few months ago.  On the television there was a video that looked like it was a Herb Ritts production of my childhood!  It was fantastic!  Robert de Niro, Al Pacino and Kylie were in it.  And Michelle Pfeiffer was one of the neighbours!
